Many states now have what is known as a “high-risk pool”, which is specifically designed for people that cannot get insurance but unfortunately, Pennsylvania does not offer this type of coverage.  That means instead of benefiting from a state-sponsored program such as this, Pennsylvania health insurance plans must be through an employer, purchased as individual coverage through a private insurance company, or secured through another type of government program such as Medicare or Medicaid.

Now, while Pennsylvania health insurance plans could do better, when comparing policies offered within the United States to many other countries, Americans have it good.  Some of the specific areas in which US health insurance coverage excels is confidentiality of consumer information, expedient healthcare, sterile doctor’s offices, and hospitals, and fast adoption of new processes and technologies.

However, the problem is that while health insurance for the United States is among the best in the world, there continues to be issues specific to cost, which is seen with Pennsylvania health insurance plans.  Interestingly, when compared with other countries where money is not an issue, people in the United States have much lower life expectancies, infant mortalities, and higher numbers of people who do not have any type of health insurance coverage.  When looking at things from this standpoint, it is easy to see that improvement is needed.

Today, experts estimate that close to 50 million Americans still live without insurance and with Pennsylvania ranking low, a lot of the population is affected.  This means that far too many people are without Pennsylvania health insurance plans or have inferior coverage.  Although the truth is hard to swallow, people need to understand the true consequences of not having Pennsylvania health insurance plans or coverage for any state.  The following are just a few examples of the devastation that comes from no or poor insurance.

·    Children and adults without health insurance who become ill typically worsen quicker and die sooner than those with good coverage

·    Because of poor health and premature deaths that occur within the United States, the value of people without insurance has a serious impact on the economy, which leads to a loss of jobs to the tune of $65 to $130 billion every year!

·    Financial stability within the healthcare profession is directly linked to people without insurance.  This means individuals who do not have Pennsylvania health insurance plans are actually a part of the growing economic crisis, not because it is their fault but because insurance reform is needed.  After all, without health insurance, fewer people go to the doctor, get treatment, or spend time in the hospital, which trickles down to the healthcare workers who no longer have enough patients to sustain their jobs.
